Take the Famous Pelican Tour

As part of the 50th birthday of Pelican Pete, the world’s largest pelican, in 2007 a group of local businesses created a flock of pelican sculptures called the "friends of Pelican Pete". Over three dozen of these four–foot birds were decorated by local and regional artists commissioned by the owners of each bird.

Visit Maplewood State Park

The maple forest turns brilliant shades of orange, gold, and red in the fall. Eight major lakes and many ponds offer water lovers places to swim, fish, boat, and simply relax. Lake Lida has a sandy beach and large picnic areas for visitors. Drive along the scenic route to observe the wildlife: the park is host to 150 bird species and 50 species of mammals. The extensive trail system attracts hikers, horseback riders, and cross-country skiers.

Meet ’Pete’ — The Worlds Largest Pelican

The World’s Largest Pelican stands at the base of the Mill Pond dam on the Pelican River, right in downtown Pelican Rapids. It is 15 1/2 feet tall, built in 1957. Water spews from the dam in a continuous stream, making this statue somehow more dynamic than others we've seen in Minnesota. Kids are fishing for Sunnies, bluefish and Northerns around the base of the Pelican and along the opposite shore.
